the birds and the bees

With each season mounting hope renews the anticipation of a fertile and full womb.  But as the moon moves through it's own cycle, hope is dashed.  Pages open to reveal a dead nestling, a lost pregnancy.  The moon and seasons play guide through a cycle of hope, loss, sadness and silence.  This book surrounds itself with issues of fertility and failed pregnancy, as well  as the profound sadness, deep pain and unbroken silence that partner these all too common aspects of women's health.  The grieving is not allowed.

Inkjet printed Epson velvet cotton rag 260 gsm, inkjet printed vellum, decorative vellum, flower embossed cover paper,  embossed book cloth, 4  1/2" x 4  1/8" x 5/8"   2017. Edition of 20.

*The nestlings photographed are house wrens.  They were found dead in their nest after an attack by a sparrow.  No creatures were harmed by human hands for the making of this book.
