covfefe
2018 marks the 200th anniversary of Mary Shelley’s “Frankenstein; or, the Modern Prometheus.” 2018 also marks the first anniversary of the inauguration of President Trump. Much like Victor Frankenstein, the Electoral College had misguided hopes and dreams of making something great, but instead created a monster, when, in opposition to the popular vote, they voted Donald Trump into the office of the President. This monster shares many similarities to Frankenstein's monster. Both yearn for acceptance. Both act out in childlike tantrums in attempt to gain attention. Both have become angry in the lack of support from their creators. The science of language presents difficulties for both monsters. And, both have unnatural coloring that sets them apart from their human contemporaries.
In this concertina book a stylized silhouette of Donald Trump is block printed in bright and garish colors on each page. The silhouettes are arranged face to face giving the appearance that they are shouting at each other in lack of a better audience. Small errors in printing are included giving a somewhat childlike manner of a rushed or unskilled application, mimicking the childlike manner in which President Trump thoughtlessly and hastily reacts on social media to the world around him. The Preamble to the United States Constitution is printed on the cover. Though the punctuation remains in tact, most of the words have been replaced with the infamous term covfefe, a typo tweeted by the President, who, in his own arrogance refused to admit his error and instead alluded to its mysterious meaning.
