Handmade paper dipped in eight separate 25 sheet bundles into poison ivy botanical dye. The pages dried in their small stacks under the sun, allowing the pigment to slowly move between the paper until settled.
I nurtured the vat of poison ivy dye all summer long, continuously feeding a bubbling pot the leaves and stems of poison ivy collected every other day from the nearby forest. The vat continued to change over time and, with the addition of more and more plant materials, matured into a rich yellow brown with a pungent scent that was a combination of fresh greens and a sharp warning of the poison it held.
